“It’s the best short and to-the-point video we’ve seen on the early life of the unborn child. Few can view this video and still consider abortion as an option”, says Fr. Jim Whalen, National Director of Priests for Life Canada (PFLC).

PFLC is in its 12th year of promoting the “Culture of Life” message in Canada. Though its membership consists of both clergy and laity, its main purpose is to support Canadian clergy in the pro-life cause. Now they have come across the perfect tool to promote the message that life exists from the moment of conception. It’s a short (five minute) DVD that shows ultrasound imagery featuring preborn babies during the early stages of life. This video has been produced in the United States but is equally useful in Canada. “We don’t have the resources to produce such a video but there’s no reason we shouldn’t promote a good product when we see it”, says Fr. Jim.

PFLC wants to try to get the Baby Steps DVD into the hands of as many young people as possible, so, it’s being made available free of charge in Canada (as funds permit) to anyone who will help get it into the hands of young people. The free DVD is being targeted mainly to those in their teens and 20’s. A generous benefactor has donated the money needed to get the distribution started. PFLC hopes that further donations will ensure that free distribution will continue until thousands are distributed across Canada. Crisis Pregnancy Centres in Canada are already being notified of the free offer. Free copies have already gone out to dioceses willing to give them to couples taking marriage prep courses.

Amazing 4-D Ultrasound imagery captures the movement of preborn babies, 7 weeks to 22 weeks old, as they roll, yawn, spin, smile, blink, stretch, and sneeze. “You’ll love, you’ll laugh, you’ll learn to respect the lives of both mother and child during these early stages of pregnancy”, says the promotional material. “Videos we’ve seen before have been somewhat expensive to distribute on a mass basis”, says Fr. Jim. “Now we can distribute this DVD by the thousands at a reasonable cost.

Fr. Joseph Hattie, OMI, who is the director of the Office of Marriage and Family Formation for the Archdiocese of Halifax has already ordered dozens of free copies of Baby Steps for couples taking the marriage prep course. “This is a great pro-life tool”, says Fr. Hattie”. Few words need to be said after viewing this video. Parents and grandparents everywhere should ensure that young people get one. This DVD says it all in just five minutes. Previous videos have been much longer making it difficult to encourage young people to watch them. Not so with Baby Steps. PFLC has no doubt this video will convince many moms to carry their unborn child to term.

Society seems to be moving into the direction of accepting the fact that the unborn child is human from the moment of conception. Though over 100,000 babies are aborted annually in Canada, the numbers seem to be on the decrease. Baby Steps is intended to accelerate that decrease.
It seems that PFLC has found an excellent tool to promote the cause of the unborn. Free copies for Canadian distribution are available by calling Darlene at 1-888-300-2007 or you can write to Priests for Life Canada, P.O. Box 43, Cumberland, ON K4C 1E5. The Baby Steps video can also be viewed on the internet at priestsforlifecanada.com.

Catholic Groups and individuals urged to support the effort

The Baby Steps DVD is a wonderful tool to advance the pro-life cause. This 4-D Ultrasound imagery features the actual movement of life in the womb from the early stages of 7 weeks to 22 weeks. Few can deny the humanity of the unborn child after watching this short five-minute video.

Priests for Life Canada (PFLC), a national organization of clergy and laity dedicated to the pro-life cause, hopes to place a free copy of Baby Steps into the hands of all Canadian pregnant mothers, couples to be married, and especially young people in their teens and 20’s. This video, produced by American Life League, is available on DVD, which makes it relatively inexpensive to produce and distribute. Fr. Jim Whalen, National Director of PFLC says, “We hope to distribute thousands of free copies in an attempt to reduce the over 300 abortions occurring each day in Canada”.

“We’re calling on all Catholic groups across Canada to support us in this effort”, says Fr. Jim. “A very generous donor has given us enough money to get the program started but we need the support of Knights of Columbus Councils, the Catholic Women’s League, Pro-life groups, and all groups who support efforts to reduce and eventually eliminate abortion from Canada. Catholic organizations are encouraged to make the distribution of Baby Steps one of their special projects of the year during 2008, the 40th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, an encyclical by Pope Paul VI on the regulation of birth. Groups, as well as individuals, are urged to join this effort by sending support funds to Priests for Life Canada, P.O. Box 43, Cumberland, ON K4C 1E5. A tax receipt will be issued.

PRESS RELEASE

CUMBERLAND, ON – February 19, 2008 – Priests for Life Canada feels it has come across one of the best tools yet to save unborn lives. It’s a short to-the-point, non-graphical, five minute DVD imagery featuring unborn life in a way unseen until very recently. This amazing 4-D ultrasound, called “Baby Steps”, shows mother and child during a crutial stage of his/her life from seven weeks to 22 weeks of age. Fr. Jim Whalen, National Director of Priests for Life Canada says “It’s the best short and to-the-point video we’ve seen on the early life of the unborn child. Few can view this video and still consider abortion as an option. We need to get this DVD into the hands of as many young people as possible”.

This amazing 4-D ultrasound imagery has caught the attention of thousands as full-motion video shows the unborn child roll, yawn, spin, smile, blink, stretch, and sneeze at an age when many think human life doesn’t even exist. You’ll love, you’ll laugh, and you’ll learn as you watch five minutes of life in the womb – five minutes that you’ll never forget.

This short DVD is such a tremendous boost to the pro-life cause that Priests for Life Canada is placing an enormous amount of energy into getting this DVD into the hands of as many people as possible – and it’s being distributed free of charge in the hope that it will be seen by as many youth as possible. Already a generous donor has provided start-up funds to help PFLC distribute this video free of charge to Crisis Pregnancy Centres, couples engaged to be married, and youth across Canada. “But we need more funds,” says Fr. Jim. “It’s a costly venture to distribute this DVD free of charge by the thousands”. Priests for Life Canada has taken on this project in an effort to promote this 40th anniversary year of Humanae Vitae, a prophetic encyclical on life by Pope John Paul II. Included in this project, Priests for Life Canada is also distributing free to pastors a poster entitled “I, your pastor, support Natural Family Planning”. Clergy only need to contact PFLC to obtain free copies.

A special request to support this project is going out to all pro-life supporters, pro-life organizations, Knights of Columbus councils, Catholic Woman’s League, and other groups which promote the pro-life cause. A special one-page ad has been designed and is being sent to diocese and Catholic newspapers across Canada in the hope that they will help promote the “Baby Steps” and “NFP Poster” projects. Please click here for more information on the Natural Family Planning poster.
