PARISH

JUST FOR LIFE

INFORMATION WEEKEND

A parish “Just for Life” weekend has five main purposes:

  1. To promote the pro-life message in your parish.
  2. To attract new people to the pro-life movement.
  3. To encourage your pastor to speak on pro-life issues.
  4. To have fun spreading the pro-life message.
  5. To encourage parishioners to become FREE complimentary members of PFLC for one year.

 How it’s done:

r  Ask your pastor if he will allow you and your pro-life friends to conduct a “Just for Life” weekend in your parish.

r Ask your pastor if he will allow a “Just for Life” information table where parishioners can get free pro-life information after Masses. PFLC will provide all material. Other pro-life information can be added at the discretion of the coordinators.

r  Ask your pastor if he would preach a pro-life homily during the “Just for Life” weekend. This is NOT absolutely necessary.

r  Contact PFLC to arrange to have free material sent. Indicate the number of bulletins that are distributed in your parish.

r  Display the “Just for Life” colour poster in your parish three weeks prior to the information weekend (provided by PFLC).

r  Include an announcement in your parish bulletin for three weeks prior to the event. See page 3 for a sample announcement.

r  Distribute the PFLC “Catholic Life and Family” newspaper with parish bulletins one week prior to the information weekend. These will be provided free of charge by PFLC.

r  Arrange an OPTIONAL “coffee” gathering to take place after each Mass

r  Set up the display table at your church. Priests for Life Canada will provide all material but be sure to include pro-life information from other sources if you wish.

r  Place “free draw” slips and a “FREE DRAW” sign next to the draw prize and encourage parishioners to enter the draw. PFLC will provide an appropriate free draw prize and draw slips.

r  Place response cards and “golf pencils” in each of the pews prior to Mass. These are provided by PFLC.

r  Have ushers collect completed response cards after Communion.

r  Place more response cards and free draw slips in the pews after each Mass.

r  Draw a winner of the free draw after the last Mass.

r  Return the completed response cards to Priests for Life Canada.

r  Announce the free draw winner in the next parish bulletin along with a thank you note from PFLC.

Please note: Items left over DO NOT need to be returned to Priests for Life Canada unless requested.

A SAMPLE "JUST FOR LIFE" WEEKEND

Hosted by the Catholic Women's League

St. John Vianney Parish, Kamloops BC

Pastor: Reverend Wladyslaw Karciaz, O.M.I.

Warning: Your parish "Just for Life" weekend doesn't need to be this elaborate... but it sure is nice.

Picture 3, 4, and 5: Now isn't it just like the CWL to bake a cake, or two. Nothing attracts parishioners to a pro-life event like a piece of cake (or two).
